85 components in a movement just 1.00mm thick.

Every component in this model was meticulously crafted from scratch. The rotor, the heart of the watch, was redesigned from a typical three-component structure to a smaller, two-component design using an innovative welding technique. This approach allowed it to fit within a 1.00mm movement. Similar experimentation was applied to the coil and power cell, challenging traditional watchmaking methods to create a truly revolutionary timepiece.

Using materials that combine thinness and strength.

As a watch becomes thinner, its elegance increases, but maintaining strength is a challenge. With the Eco-Drive One, Citizen overcame this by using innovative materials that ensure both slimness and durability, achieving a perfect balance between form and function.

Hand-assembled by skilled craftsmen.

After the 85 components are crafted, they are handed to Citizen's master craftsmen for meticulous hand-assembly. These artisans developed entirely new techniques to achieve the watch's record-setting thinness. With a 1.00mm thick movement and a 2.98mm case, the Eco-Drive One is the world's thinnest light-powered watch. This achievement was possible because Citizen is a true manufacture d'horlogerie, handling everything from part creation to final assembly in-house.

Eco-Drive

Eco-Drive, developed by Citizen in 1976, powers the Eco-Drive One. It converts light into electrical energy via a solar cell, charging the power cell to drive the hands. This technology now works in both dim light and sunlight, eliminating the need for battery replacements. With over six months of running time on a single full charge, Eco-Drive has continually evolved, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in watchmaking.
